Live you life with a compassion you can be proud of, and let your last breath fade away with dignity and love
Last night I moseyed on home to find some rather interesting construction work had occurred in our entrance stairwell (our flat is one big Esher-esque series of steps). Then, as in the slow penny of Monday morning, I started to realise that it may not have been as constructive as I thought and may actually have been deconstructive. Ah yes, we had been burgled. Robbed! I have inserted a picture of a cat-burglar (thanks google – our love will never die) though evidence points more towards it being some sort of hippopotamus-burglar. The door is really rooted.
I was home alone for a couple of hours and had some errands to run, so it seemed a rather nonchalant affair for a while, “Oh yes, I see the burglars have dropped by…” type thing. Housemates were in a bit more of a flap when they got home, and then it was the landlord, the locksmiths and the discussions about steel frames and “London bar” locks.
Long and short – I didn’t loose a thing. The iPod was hiding under a big pile of books (without headphones I have been reading more) and Choco’s camera was under a (very) bizarre hat that my mother sent early for my birthday. Thanks Mum! Housemates were not quite so lucky, with one of them loosing a laptop (she is devastated).
Thankfully, also, I am not in any way to blame. It would have been awful if they had come in through a window or a door I had left unlocked. But no, this seems to be burglary of the good old honest bash-the-door-down-and-grab-stuff variety.
Ahhhh Brixton.

My head is doing funny things without regular music listening. It throws lyrics and songs at me randomly in the middle of the night, on waking, on the tube. I woke this morning with Mirah's While we have the sun in my head. Thought I would share cause it is pretty.
While We Have The Sun
by Mirah
Let's take the time to walk together while we have the sun
You never know when temperamental weather's gonna come
And if you want to face the death you're never that far from
Just take a breath and sing to it when all the day is done
So sorry about all the sorrow in your life you'll know
It's true that all the ones you love will someday have to go
And everytime you say goodbye you'll hear the trumpets blow
A serenade to the soul, all surrounded by the glow
If you feel all broken 'cause i left you there too soon
Just know that it's not up to you to make the flowers wilt or bloom
And if you think you're lonely then just listen for the tune
Of all the stars i left for you in the chest of the moon
If you want to shake whatever separates you from
The holiness you want to make your life on earth become
Live your life with a compassion you can be proud of
Then let your last breath fade away with dignity and love
Let's take the time to walk together while we have the sun
You never know when temperamental weather's gonna come
And if you want to face the death you're never that far from
Just take a breath and sing to it when all the day is done

PS - re-reading those lyrics I think that whoever it is has it wrong; it should be, "Of all the stars i left and not just of the moon" instead of the bizarre "chest of the moon line".
Also - workmates think I am undergoing "bad luck" at the moment with wallet theft and house burglary. I beg to differ; it could all have been so much worse. I mean, I was robbed and they didn't even take anything!! (of mine). That is good, isn't it?
You know those cherry picker things? Do they count as ladders? Cause I did walk under one of them a month or so ago and was a bit concerned...
BTW - I have been trying to find some streaming or mp3 of While we have the sun, but no luck. However you can download some other Mirah tracks here .
People that like stuff like pop77, Sufjan Stevens, and other soft cock music (in the nicest possible way - you know who you are) may enjoy this woman.
well - we wanted colourful, didnt we?
The hat saved the day! Hurrah for Hat!
Phew, looks like we both dodged a bullet.
I also take offence at the soft-cock comment that was OBVIOUSLY directed at me.
Hay Maay-te. I am an honorary member of the soft cock fan club, and don't forget who is recommending this girl! Actually, my headphones JUST ARRIVED. And I am listening to Cat Power and Mirah as I write.
Actually - read a cool thing this morning. Faithless are also a tad-ly-bit keen on Cat Power and have asked Chan to collaborate in the future! That would be cool!
People people. Just downloaded the Mirah track from the above link. It is really worth a listen. Really really. Worth. A. Listen.
Hmmm. Link seems broken. Just try to download "cold cold water" from epitonic.

Is that track on a Pop77 mix somewhere? I've heard it before methinks.
Why, yes it is Choco!! How very sharp of you! It is at the end of .. one of them. I can't remember which.
Also - listening to pop77 mix 52 right now. It is also bringing tears to my eyes for completely different reasons. Damn it is good.
mmm, now I understand the frustrated tone of your "fuck it, I'll just send it to you" email, which seemed somewhat out of the blue, before I caught up on the blog scene.
Good work on the rediculous hat home security system!
Yeah. This morning I left the house and carefully put the hat back over chocos camera. You just can't be too careful.
I think you should start up your own security business: "Ridiculous Hat Home Security"....but then I suppose if everyone knew of the ridiculous hat trick, it would become somewhat redundant...
;)
CRIKEY! So much going on. I'll attempt to reboard this internet wagon now that things have settled down a bit. Meantime, here's a shout out.
Tis on the end of 16. I knew I'd heard it somewhere! I just wish I'd starting searching the track listings from number 15 instead of 52 on the pop77 web site :(
Can I just say..
In the UK, Ofcom has a special "Emergency phone number for people who believe they are being harassed by congregating journalists ".
It is only me that gets a really funny picture in their head? Or is my giggling a sign of early onset insanity?
some people who may require their services
Yes! Funny! And the Aussie accents... awwww...
Here are some links that I believe will be interested
Looks nice! Awesome content. Good job guys.
